Carolin Gallacher works as a graphic designer and project manager in Bremen, Germany. She draws since she was five years old. In her personal work she writes, draws and designs independent picturebooks.
Her stories take place far beyond the limits of reality.

I studied Landscape Architecture in Berlin. Here you see my favourite space: The Tempelhofer Feld. It’s a huge area which has been an airport once. The sketch above we were supposed to draw as students. In my studies I developed the wish of making picturebooks, because suddenly I could create out of the borders of reality-design. The time at Uni also let me to digital illustration. And to design of course, which has always been the main focus of my studies. Studying Landscape Architecture taught me to design and to tell a story through a design for each individual project.
I have been designing on these principles ever since.

I love music and listen to music all the time. So my books will have a soundtrack. Where other books have a table of contents, mine will have a track list. The music will strengthen the experience of the story by offering accompanying melodies.

This is my work space. It’s my final perfect setting after several years of working with different options: the drawing tablet in this picture mirrors the artwork on the screen, which is perfect for sitting straight. But if I want, I can always draw directly on the tablet itself, too. On the left, there’s my old easel. I use it for the storyboard. It helps a lot to have something physical I can checkmark. This is not my final workspace. We are currently renovating our home and I’ll change the room at a certain (unknown) point in the future.
Apart from books I like bouldering. I’ll upload a picture later to prove it. Maybe.
